Extracurricular Activities

Extracurricular activities belong on a resume because they show hiring managers that you are competitive, engaged and always looking for new challenges. Listing extracurricular activities is a good way for students and entry-level job applicants to show employers that they can handle multiple responsibilities at once. Involvement with school-related sports teams, clubs and volunteer organizations should be displayed on a resume somewhere below education, experience, certifications and awards.

Managers, executives and experienced employees should only list extracurricular activities that help to demonstrate a strong character and a passion for community involvement. It is not necessary for high-level applicants to list activities from their college days. If a list of activities is long, it is a good idea to only highlight participation in organizations that you hold leadership positions in.
